In US news and current events today, the coronavirus is putting the most marginalized communities at the most risk. The COVID-19 pandemic is hitting the LGBTQ+ community extra hard. Members of LGBTQ+ communities including, lesbian, gay, bisexual, transgender, queer, asexual, pansexual, gender non-binary, gender nonconforming, gender fluid, and other queer-identified people are at even more risk during the pandemic.

We spoke with members of the LGBTQ+ community as well as President of the Human Rights Campaign Alphonso David to discuss some of the challenges and struggles that LGBTQ+ people are facing during the coronavirus pandemic.

LGBTQ+ people are at greater risk of economic and health complications than non-LGBTQ+ people in the COVID-19 crisis, according to the HRC, the Human Rights Campaign. 20% of LGBTQ+ people live in poverty and 5 million LGBTQ+ people work in industries impacted by COVID-19, like food services, hospitals, education, and retail.
