Great White Shark, Ventura California

Great White Shark feeding on the carcass of a dead whale. We filmed this on our way back to port after a day of ghost trap removal in the channel islands with Ocean Defenders Alliance. www.oceandefenders.org. This was a large male shark, as evidenced by its size relative to a 30 foot whale carcass. He circled cautiously for 10 to 15 minutes, then would cruise in and take a huge bite, then go back to circling. The very first shot is a pass he made by the camera just after we lowered it into the water. He seemed to be investigating the sound of the splash. This was filmed off the coast of California, between Ventura and Anacapa Island.
