Why We Won't Achieve Equality: Rethinking Social Activism | Neila Choomchuay | TEDxYouth@ISBangkok
Ted Talks Kookllection
Published on Mar 10, 2021
In the modern world, the discussion surrounding social justice has become increasingly prevalent and may, at times, seem inescapable. While these conversations have succeeded in spreading awareness about the issues faced by marginalized groups such as women and the LGBT+ community, this may not be having the desired effect. In this talk Neila shares how the approach social justice activists are currently using could be changed to foster acceptance rather than strengthen existing intolerances. Neila Choomchuay is a 17 year old girl who was born and raised in Thailand. She has a passion for learning and seeks to understand people and culture. As a member of multiple marginalized communities, she was inspired to explore modern day social activism and its impact on tolerance. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at https://www.ted.com/tedx
