The annual lantern floating ceremony in Hawaii is one of the largest memorial day experiences in America with over 6,000 lanterns lit and placed in the waters, watched by over 40,000 people gathered on Magic Island at Ala Moana Beach Park, Honolulu and is broadcast around the world. Thousands of candle lit lanterns are placed in the water to honor lost loved ones and generating collective hope toward the future, the candle represents the light in the heart that is never extinguished.

People come here for many reasons but the Lantern Floating ceremony in Hawaii is where all can come together for a personal and a collective moment of remembrance, reflection, and offering gratitude to those who have gone before us. The climatic moment is the launching of the lanterns at sunset, floating lanterns lit by candle's, inscribed with names and messages set out to sea.

There is music, dance, appearances from local artist, politicians, government officials and participants.
You can buy a lantern to assemble, then inscribe your message on it. Then when the ceremony signal chimes, everybody gathers to the shores to release their lanterns into the sea.
The Memorial day floating lantern ceremony is a spectacular site to see if you are in Hawaii. A truly memorable and touching experience and what a way to remember, that one single moment can create a harmony of cultures.
